Deloris Bourne

    Deloris K. Swearingen Bourne (Del), 80 years old, of Clear Lake, passed away Feb. 25, 2012 at Hospice House of North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa of natural causes. 
    Del was born Dec. 26, 1932 in Ames, Iowa. On June 11, 1949 she married Alvin Bourne (Al) and the two of them were blessed with one daughter, Linda, on June 14, 1957.

Del wrote for the Boone Today paper for many years and with her articles she touched many lives.  Del loved life and her families and friends and the ISU Cyclones more than life itself.  She never met a stranger. She was always willing to be that person who you could rely on for anything.
    Del is survived by her husband of 62 years, Al, of Clear Lake and their dog, Rocky, which could be considered by most as their son; daughter, Linda (John Olson) of Boone; her grandchildren, Johna Olson (Tim Krause) of Fraser, Iowa, Junior Olson (Lyndie) of Boone, Samantha Olson of Boone, and James Olson (Matthew Beyer) of Ames, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Alicen Meyers and Harper Olson, who were the light of her life. (Even if you didn’t want to hear about any of her family, you would get an earful of their lives.) She is also survived by the people whom she considered her sisters,  brother, daughters, sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Vera and Loris Swearingen; siblings, Tom Swearingen, Maxine Ryan, Betty Ibrahim, and Phyliss Hutchison.
    As a final act of her life she has donated her body to Medical Education and Research Institute in Memphis, Tenn.  She knew she always had something to teach everyone whether you wanted to learn it or not.
    Del was adamant that people use the occasion of her passing to remember and celebrate her life instead of mourn her passing.  She requested an informal celebration of her passing. This will be held at the Moose Lodge, 812 8th St., Boone, Iowa on Sunday, March 4, 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. All who knew her are invited to come and share in food, drink, laughter, and memories.
    Del also requested no flowers. Those inclined to make a donation in her name are asked to make it to Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City, IA 50401.
    “Age is a matter of mind….if you don’t mind than it doesn’t matter!”
