David E. Erickson

David Edwin Erickson, 65, Circle Pines, Minn., died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at Golden Living Center, Fridley, Minn.

  A funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 at the Mueller-Bies Funeral Home in Roseville, Minn., with the Rev. Bob Burmeister officiating.  Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn., with military honors conducted.

  David was born Feb. 16, 1948 in West Union, Iowa, the son of Edwin J. and Betty C.(Harvey) Erickson.  He attended school there until the family moved to Clear Lake, Iowa in 1959.  David was a 1966 graduate of Clear Lake High School.  After graduating, he attended the University of Iowa before serving as a medic in the Army in the Vietnam War.

  David and Beverly(Maynard) were married in 1974 and they had two sons, Daniel and Drew.  They later divorced and David and Marge(Shilson) were married in 2007.

  David had various jobs throughout his lifetime.  However, he found his perfect fit as a Para at Crossroads School in Minnestoar, working with the behavioral and mentally challenged children.  He was there until August 2012 when he was diagnosed with ALS.

  David is survived by his sons, Daniel, Arden Hills, Minn., and Drew, Champlin, Minn.; step-son, Jay Shilson, Circle Pines, Minn.; two sisters, Barbara Hefty, Carrollton, Ga., and Marsha (Jerry) Bezely, Clear Lake; and a brother, Dr. Steven C. (Krista) Erickson, Saginaw, Mich.; and many special nieces and nephews.

  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janelle, at birth; wife, Marge, in 2010; and his parents.
