Dave Oehlert, 63, of Clear Lake, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2012, at home. The family suggest memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.

Dave B. Oehlert, son of Howard and Verna (Davis) Oehlert, was born on March 31, 1949. He attended Ventura elementary and graduated from Ventura High School in 1967. He was a standout halfback on a powerful Viking football team. Dave went to Mason City Junior College and later to Mankato College. That’s where Dave hooked up with the Minnesota Vikings, traveling around in winter for area basketball games to play area high school coaches, where he was known as the Goatman by the Vikings. It wasn’t uncommon to have the old Viking players at his house.
Dave came back home to help with the Oehlert farm operation. Later he drove many a load of corn for Karen and Gary Peters.
Back in the day, Dave’s passion was stock car racing. He would rub fenders with Harvey Pattersen, Jerry Hejna and Billy Olson. Dave was always famous for winning the B feature at the race track. Dave was happy when he was painting houses. He painted quite a few in the Clear Lake area. Dave loved spending time with his golfing buddies, especially Stu and Gene Parr and Bob Hagen. Never a dull moment, Dave would fire up his poison pen and write an editorial. Some were quite clever.
Dave was loved by all and will be missed by many.
Dave is survived by a brother, Richard (Cherie) Oehlert and their children, Jon (Cassie) Sheer and their children, Hayden and Lyla, Angie (Ray) Powell and their children, Teaghan and Tierney; brother, Garry (Julie) Oehlert and their children, Brooke Nowell and her son, Trenton, Grant Oehlert, Syretta (Josh) Groves, and their children, Blake, Riley and Jace; Andy (Bethany) Monson, and their children, Carly and Lehman; cousin, Chuck Stepleton; his uncle, Oscar Davis, along with several cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Verna; father, Howard; infant sister, Margaret Ann; and his aunt, Maxine Davis.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
