Dane Waldron wins PGA Junior Tour Championship for third straight year
Dane Waldron, an upcoming senior at Clear Lake High School, defended his PGA Junior Tour Championship for the third straight year at Copper Creek Golf Course, in Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Aug. 6 and 7.
Waldron captured the title by shooting a 69 in the first round on Wednesday and a 78 on Thursday for a two-day total of 147. The second place winner, Patrick Prosser, from Valley High School, was only one stroke behind with a 148.
The two day tournament presented some difficult conditions with a steady, heavy rain for both rounds. Waldron competed in the 16-17 year old division, with 45 golfers competing.
“I’ve played in over 17 tournaments throughout the country this summer,” said Waldron. “There are some great Iowa golfers in my age group and being able to play against them has helped to improve my game. I’m looking forward to another trip to the State tournament with CLHS in the spring.”
