Condominium project near Central Gardens unveiled

Groundbreaking is anticipated this summer for a 36-unit senior independent living condominium to be constructed in the center of Clear Lake, next to Central Gardens of North Iowa.

Garden Park Village will include eight unit types of both one and two bedroom designs. Unit sizes will be from 850 square feet to over 1,400 square feet.

“I have had an interest in developing housing of this nature,” said Craig Skott, who together with Ron Steward comprise B.D. Development, a property development company based in Mason City.  Skott has been with Skott & Anderson Architects in Mason City for over 35 years and also has been developing housing in Mason City and Charles City in recent years. Steward owned and operated the Floor to Ceiling store in Mason City for 25 years. For the last decade he has been developing housing projects in Mason City.

“We noticed Clear Lake has not had housing of this nature,” added Skott.  “We had been looking for property for the last two years.  This site-- within walking distance to the downtown and with its proximity to Central Gardens, was very attractive.”

Skott and Steward negotiated the purchase of the one-plus acre parcel located at 709 7th Ave. N., on the north side of Central Gardens, in December.  Since that time the pair have readied plans for a three story, 36-unit building, featuring underground, heated parking.  Garden Park Village will also feature decorated common areas, including a multipurpose room with kitchenette, guest suite, club room, lounge, and fitness center.  It will also have a landscaped patio overlooking Central Gardens.

Skott noted the topography of the site made it perfect for the building design they envisioned.  The slope of the parcel will allow for access to 44 heated underground parking spaces.  The entrance area on the north side of the building will also have parking.
