CLPD K-9 officer will be replaced

The Clear Lake Police Department plans to exchange its K-9 officer.
    Police Chief Greg Peterson said “Quanto,” who came to Clear Lake in 2010, will be returned to Mid-Michigan Kennels where he was

purchased. The decision was made after Quanto bit a member of the Clear Lake Ambulance crew on the forearm.  Although the bite was not

severe, Chief Peterson

decided that the risk presented to the public is unacceptable.
    “The K-9 program is very popular and the K-9 handler and his dog routinely do public presentations to service organizations and local schools. We absolutely do not want to risk a bite to a student or a member of the public,” stated the Chief.  “Quanto is a dual purpose dog who was trained in both narcotics detection and attack.”
     Another dog has already been chosen to replace Quanto.
    “The Police Department K-9 program has been a great success for the Clear Lake Police Department and the community.  We do not intend to let this unfortunate event sabotage the program,” said Chief Peterson.  “We have made arrangements to trade Quanto to Mid-Michigan Kennels for another dog.”
