CLHS speech students compete
Eleven CLHS speech students traveled to Mason City Newman High School on Feb. 23, to participate in the Individual District Speech Competition. Students who received Division “I” ratings and advanced to the State Competition included: Amie Adams,
Literary Program and Storytelling; Luis Dominguez, Solo Musical; Katie Ouverson, Poetry; Kirsten Reineke, Radio Newscasting and Prose; Derrick Hinton and Dylan Anderson in Radio Broadcasting; Olivia Larson, Prose; and Andrew Perego, Solo Musical.
Earning Division II ratings were Chrissy Tesar for Acting, Ida Goldberg in Poetry, and Morgan Sacia in Solo Musical.
At the State Competition, which was held March 9 at Starmont High School in Arlington, students again performed very well, according to Speech Coach Mary Jo Peterson. Overall Division “I” ratings were awarded to Amie Adams in Storytelling and Dylan Anderson in Radio Newscasting.
Also performing well at the State Competition and earning Division “II” ratings were Derrick Hinton for Radio Newscasting, Olivia Larson in Prose, and Amie Adams in Literary Program.
The following students qualified for State Competition but were unable to attend: Kirsten Reineke (Radio News and Prose), Katie Ouverson (Prose), Luis Dominguez (Solo Musical), and Andrew Perego (Solo Musical).
The contests concluded the 2012-2013 Individual Speech season.
