CLHS senior named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist
Hadley Luker, a senior at Clear Lake High School, has been named a Semifinalist in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program and has an opportunity to continue in the National Merit Scholarship competition. The National Merit Scholarship
Program is an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships.
Luker qualified as a Semifinalist by taking the PSAT test last year and receiving one of the highest scores in the nation. Some 16,000 of the high scorers, representing less than 1 percent of the nation’s high school graduating seniors, qualify as Semifinalists in each annual National Merit Program. They are the only participants who have an opportunity to advance in the competition for some 8,000 Merit Scholarship awards.
To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist must earn SAT scores that confirm his/her PSAT/NMSQT performance. Scores from both tests become part of the Semifinalist’s application along with the submission of a personal essay, leadership positions, honors/awards and any activities/volunteer service. In February of 2015, Hadley will be notified if she advances to the Finalist level.
“This is a very prestigious award and Hadley was chosen on the basis of her scholastic and extracurricular accomplishments, abilities, and potential for future academic success,” said Cathy Spotts, CLHS counselor.
Hadley is the daughter of Todd Luker and the late, Lisa Foley-Luker.
