Clear Lake X-C team competes at Belmond-Klemme Invitational
The Clear Lake girls were second and boys team was fourth overall at the Belmond-Klemme Invitational held Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Three Lions were among the top five in the girls varsity race. The group was led by freshman Taylor Hauser, who was second overall in a time of 17:55. Trudy Peterson was fourth and Sierra Greiman crossed the finish line
in fifth. Their times were 18:12 and 18:15 respectively. Also figuring in the scoring for Clear Lake was Katie Ouverson, 20th in 21:06, and Logan Anderson, who was 22nd in 21:36. Also competing in the varsity race was Amie Adams, placing 28th in 21:55. and Kirsten Reineke, 39th in 25:04.
Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock won the girls title with 30 points. The Cards had all five of their runners place in the top 12. The Lions were next with an impressive 53 points, followed by Hampton-Dumont with 87. The remainder of the field included Osage (96), North Iowa (114) and Clarion-Goldfield (160).
Three Lions were in the top 20 in the boys race, paced by Jake Iverson. Iverson was fourth in 18:06. The next three Lion runners were Alex Enabnit, 14th in 19:23; Ryan Faught, 18th in 19:41; and Alex Bloom, 22nd in 20:05. Spencer Orr completed the team scoring by placing 36th in 21:28. Also running in the varsity race was MJ Mixdorf, 37th in 21:29.
Clear Lake was without the services of Antonio DiMarco, who won the boys race and led the Lions to the team title in their first meet in Mason City. DiMarco was injured and could not finish the Belmond-Klemme race.
G-H/V/WH also won the boys varsity team title with 48 points. Osage and North Iowa followed with 73 and 77 points. Clear Lake was fourth with 94, with Central Springs (119), Hampton-Dumont (123) and Forest City (129) rounding out the field.
In junior varsity races, Clear Lake’s Courtney Anderson and Jacob Welper were the leaders for the Lions. Anderson was ninth in 24:22. Teammate Kelli Gapinski was 27th in 27:29. Welper was seventh in the boys JV run in a time of 21:50. Kaleb Froiland was 16th in 22:47; Jake Harle was 23rd in 23:08; and Joe Schiller was 26th in 23:15. Sam Jones was 34th in 23:31, Nicholas Holtz was 60th in 25:46, and Ben Hillyer was 65th in 26:28.
