Clear Lake Schools plan drive for school supplies
The start of the school year is an exciting time for families. But sometimes that excitement can be mixed with stress for parents who find the costs associated with the new school year to be a challenge.
“It’s an exciting time, but it can be a financial hardship for some to get their students ready for the school year,” said Sally Duesenberg, at-risk coordinator for the Clear Lake Community School District.
In response to the need, Duesenberg said this year the school district will welcome the donation of school supplies. She is asking that items be dropped off at Clear Creek Elementary School, 901 S. 14th St., by Tuesday, July 31. Financial contributions are also welcomed for the back-to-school effort.
Among the most needed items are: shoes for gym class (new or used), back packs (new or used), and new boys and girls underwear, notebooks and pencils. All items collected will be distributed at school registration Aug. 6-7 at Clear Creek.
“Registration is a great time to be able to get some of these items to families who need them. We will have a table out with the donations displayed,” added Duesenberg. She noted that the United Way of North Central Iowa is currently conducting a shoe drive for students, with distribution scheduled in late August. Any shoes donated to the Clear Lake School District drive which are not used will be forwarded to the United Way giveaway.
