Clear Lake girls soccer team shut-out in season opener

An experienced Aplington-Parkersburg team shut out the Clear Lake girls in the season opener for the Lions.  A-P outscored the Lions, 7-0.

Coach Nick DiMarco said his team got off to a rough start, but played progressively better as the game went on.

“Overall, I felt we showed tremendous growth over the course of the game.  The younger kids played with much more confidence the second half of the game,” he said.

A-P help a 6-0 lead at halftime, but was held in check in the second half.

“We played much better the second half. We have several (10) new kids to soccer this year, many of whom will play a significant role this year,” added DiMarco.

The coach noted Erin O’Tool and Jessica Faber played very well defensively, and Ellie Biebesheimer had 10 saves in goal.

Kaye Faber had Clear Lake’s lone shot on goal.   The Lions’ other experienced scoring threat, Emily Phalen, was hurt early in the game.
