Clear Lake girls end track season at District Meet
Clear Lake girls wrapped up their 2014 track season at the District Meet held at Nevada Thursday, May 15.
“The girls put their best foot forward and came up a little short of where they wanted to be,” said Coach Shawn Puttmann. The Lions were unable to advance any events to the State Meet.
Boone ran away with the team title, piling up 172 points which easily outdistanced runner-up Algona with 120. Gilbert was on the Bulldogs’ heels with 119 points, followed by Webster City with 100 and Humboldt with 95. Ballard and Nevada finished with 54 and 53 points respectively. The Lions earned 19 points.
The highest placement for Clear Lake was Megan Merfeld’s fourth place finish in the 200 meters. She ran a time of 28.72.
The 800 sprint medley placed fifth in 2:04.38. That relay was comprised of Shelby Dickes, Brittany Bieber, Mckenna Backhaus and Merfeld.
Backhaus was sixth in the 100 meters in a time of 13.96 and was a member of the sixth place 4x200 relay with Dickes, Bieber and Merfeld. The group ran a 1:57.09.
The 4x100 with Bieber, Aspen Curtis, Backhaus and Merfeld was eighth in 57.24.
The Lions will miss its three seniors, Brittany Bieber, Shelby Dickes and Kirsten Reineke.
