Clear Lake Farmer’s Market will be playing the Surf this year

Two of the “go to” places in Clear Lake — the Farmers Market and the Surf Ballroom and Museum are working together to provide area residents and summer visitors a unique Saturday morning experience.

The Farmer’s Market was formerly held near City Hall in downtown Clear Lake. The market was small and quaint with five to 10 vendors.  This coming summer, the Farmer’s Market  will  move to the Surf Ballroom parking lot due to a grassroots effort to grow the market.

Organizers say look for bigger.  Look for a Saturday morning event.  Look for fun for families.  Look for locally grown and locally made items.  Look in the Surf Ballroom parking lot.

The Farmers Market, with over 35 vendors for this upcoming summer, has outgrown the City Hall lot.

According to Farmers Market Board President Laura Tidrick,  “The Market just keeps growing.  I am amazed at the excitement for a bigger Farmers Market and the events planned.  We already have some local musicians asking to play at the Market. The Surf has been wonderful to open up their parking lot.”

The Farmers Market will not only be the place to go to buy locally grown produce and products, but it will be a Saturday morning event with music, and children’s activities, said Tidrick.

The Farmers Market will be held on  Saturday mornings from May 23 to Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon. Vendors will provide  produce, handmade ice creams, artisan breads, meats and eggs, honey, local wine, and handmade crafts. All locally produced. Many vendors will also participate in Thursdays on Main in Clear Lake.

Area residents and businesses are volunteering to sponsor the children’s activities and musical groups. Those interested in being a sponsor, a vendor, or helping with this exciting change for Clear Lake are asked to contact  the Clear Lake Farmer’s Market [email protected].  The website is www.clearlakefarmersmarket.com.

The Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter will publish a regular column, May-October, discussing what vegetables and fruits are  in season, vendor highlights, music or events planned and more.
