Clear Lake falls to W-SR in Regional tennis action

The Clear Lake varsity girls tennis team traveled to Waverly Saturday, May 12, to compete in team Regionals.  The Lions played Waverly-Shell Rock first and fell, 0-5.
Coach Martha Andrews said that aside from the team loss, she was disappointed that relatively new tournament rules

negated a strong performance by one of her players.  Taylor Julsen had won her first set and was up 5-3, serving with a score of 30 love-- just two serves away from winning her match, when the meet was called.  Under the rules, whenever a team is up by five in tournament play, the meet is finished.
“This would not have changed the out come of the meet, but personal accomplishments are also very important,” said Andrews.  “Clear Lake competed well for having five juniors and one sophomore on the team, compared to five seniors and one junior from Waverly.”
The Clear Lake team will travel to Decorah on Thursday, May 17, for individual and doubles Regional tournament.
