Clear Lake boys win Lynx Relays; claim runner-up honors at own meet

The Clear Lake boys track team kicked it into high gear last week, finishing as runner-up in their own meet, then winning the Lynx Relays at Webster City. It was the second meet win of the season for the Lions.

Lions Relays

 Chandler Diercks set a school record in the long jump, won the 100 and 200 meter races and anchored the Lions winning 4x200 relay.

  Diercks shattered the school record, a jump of 22’4” set by Mark Hewitt in 1981, with a leap of 23’ 6.25”.
Diercks and Jake Harle were a powerful one-two punch in both the long jump, 100 meters and 200 meters. Harle was second in the long jump, going 19’ 5.75”. They also dominated the 100 meters in 11.08 and 11.26. In the 200, they were clocked in 22.78 and 22.91. The runners were also part of the Lions’ winning 4x100, covering the oval in 44.77.
Connor Nosbisch won the 110 meter hurdles in 14.96, while teammate Chase Bacon was fourth in 16.57. Tanner Truesdell did well in th 400 meters, placing second in 1:01.52.
Other top finishes included Pete Swenson, fourth in the high jump by clearing 5’4” and Tamarik Lee, fifth in the discus with a throw of 91’ 9”. Dustin King was second in the 400 meter dash in a time of 53.81.
Algona earned the meet title with 135 points. Clear Lake was runner-up with 93 points, followed by Forest City with 60, West Fork with 46 and Lake Mills had 38.
In junior varsity events, Hunter Wubben won the shot put with a throw of 36’ .75”. Nate DiCamillo was third with 33’ 10.25”. Konner Mills was first and Tavian Coleman placed third in the 400 hurdles in 1:11.78 and 1:17.17. Cody Matz placed third in the long jump with a leap of 15’ 2.75”. David Vohs was first and Colin Schoneman third in the 400 meters in 1:01.17 and 1:02.51 respectively.

Lynx Relays
The Lions won their second meet of the season at the Lynx Invitational at Webster City Tuesday, April 22. Clear Lake tallied 114 points to easily top runner-up Webster City with 87. Humboldt was a close third with 85. The remainder of the field included Eagle Grove (74), Pocahontas Area (63), Iowa Falls-Alden (59), St. Edmond (52) and Northeast Hamilton (24).
“I was very proud of the boys’ efforts-- junior varsity and varsity, because back to back meet nights are tough,” said Coach AJ Feuerbach.
Chandler Diercks had another great night for the Lions. After breaking the school record in the long jump on Monday night, Diercks broke the meet record at Webster City with a jump of 22’ 9”. The mark topped the 1996 record of 22’ 8” set by Rockwell-Swaledale’s Tim Dodge.
Diercks also won the 100 meters in 11.15 while teammate Jake Harle won the 200 with a time of 23.24. Harle was second in the long jump at 19’ 4” and fourth in the 100 in 11.48. Harle won the 200 in 23.24.
The Lions also picked up wins from Connor Nosbisch in the 110 high hurdles. Chase Bacon was second in the event in 16.75.as well as relay
