Clear Lake boys golf team advances to District play

The Clear Lake boys golf team has advanced to District play after finishing second at the Class 3A Sectional Tournament played Friday at Charles City.  Decorah, ranked number one in 3A, won the Sectional with a 314.  The Lions were runner-up with 331.
The Lions will play in the District meet Friday at the municipal course in Waverly.  Independence, West Delaware and Benton Community join Clear Lake and Decorah at the District meet, with the top two teams advancing to play at State in Ames Friday and Saturday, May 25-26.

Luke Monson endured some bad luck on the front nine, but managed to battle back on the back nine and finish with an (44-37) 81.  Treslyn Allison finished the last six holes even par for a matching (41-40) 81.  Dane Waldron carded an (44-40) 84 and Tyler Sherman had (45-40) 85 for the Lions.
“Right now our team is doing a good job with keeping the high scores to a minimum,” said Coach Eric Perry.  “Luke is our big threat to score low, while now we’ve seen Tommy (Schick), Dane, and Treslyn shoot scores in the 70s for us.  Jon (Carew) is really close and so is Tyler.   If we want to make it to state and place, we’ll need to have the one, two punch with low scores.  I think we have a number one, but I’m not sure who will step up to be our number two.   It appears we have a three and four, especially with our depth with the number five and six golfers on our team.”
At the Sectional meet Carew finished with a (45-48) 93 and Schick posted a (46-40) 86.
Decorah’s Nick Nelson was the medalist with a 75.
