CL teacher, coach hospitalized after spring break accident
A Clear Lake High School teacher and coach is continuing to make progress after being rushed to a hospital with head injuries suffered in a spring break vacation mishap.
Eric Perry and his wife, Renee, were vacationing in Cozumel, Mexico. On the first day of the trip, Monday, March 10, Eric slipped near a pool and fell on wet concrete, hitting his head. Thankfully he received immediate
assistance from a doctor vacationing at the same resort. After evaluation by medical staff in Mexico it was decided to transfer him to the United States to be cared for by a neurologist. He was flown by Lear jet to San Antonio, Texas, and diagnosed with a fractured skull with a burst artery requiring a craniotomy.
Renee reports that before and after surgery her husband was sedated, but was awake enough to perform bodily responses like squeezing the nurses’ hand and moving his legs.
“Everything so far has been positive. The surgeon said the surgery went well,” Renee shared through a CaringBridge site set up to facilitate easy communication between family and friends.
One week after the accident Renee says doctors are still working to get Eric’s pain under control, but he is steadily progressing.
“He kept saying he wanted to go home. I keep telling him soon,” Renee posted on Caringbridge Monday. “He’s been up and walking with physical therapy and doing exercises. I have to coach him to do them slow and strong.”
A fund has been established at Manufacturer’s Bank and Trust in Eric Perry’s name for those wishing to contribute to the family.
