CL runners compete at Algona Invitational
Clear Lake cross country teams were at Algona Monday, Sept. 26, to compete in the large Algona Invitational. As the result of a tiebreaker, the Lion girls placed sixth overall, while the boys team recorded some of its best times of the season and finished ninth overall.
Girls race
Fairmont cruised to the team victory in the girls competition and Spencer was runner-up, but places three to six were close with the Lions finishing tied with Humboldt. The tie was broken by using the placement of the sixth runner on each team; the sixth Wildcat runner placed 73rd, while Clear Lake’s Amie Adams was 75th.
Algona placed third in the team standings with 147 points, followed by Mason City with 158, Humboldt with 159 and Clear Lake with 159. Sixteen teams competed; one school did not field a complete team.
Trudy Peterson was the first Lion to cross the finish line, placing eighth in 16:02. Teammate Sierra Greiman was next in 16:06 and Steph Faught was 17th in 16:21.
“Both Trudy and Sierra were close to going under the 16-minute time,” noted Coaches Lothar Meyer and Jerry Morris.
Also scoring for the Lions was Katie Ouverson (59th, 17:28) and Rebecca Baker (66th, 17:45). Also competing was Kirsten Reineke (87th, 18:59).
