CL girls track team hosts Early Bird Relays

 The Clear Lake girls track team hosted its Early Bird Relays Tuesday, April 8. Algona ran away with the title, piling up 158 points to easily outdistance runner-up Humboldt with 107. Clear Lake was eighth in the eight-team field with 14 points.

The Lions’ highest placewinner was Megan Merfeld, who was third in the 400 meter dash in 1:08.84.

 Aspen Curtis was fifth in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:21.17, and Brittany Bieber was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 13’ 6”.

 Clear Lake’s Sprint Medley team, comprised of Shelby Dickes, Bieber, Mckenna Backhaus and Merfeld, placed fourth. The group was timed in 2:05.86.
 In junior varsity events, Selena Borrill finished fifth in the long jump with a leap pf 10’ 7.5”. Kirsten Reineke was fifth in the JV 800 meter run in a time of 3:24.41. Emily VanderPloeg and Borrill finished seventh and eighth respectively in the JV 200 meter dash. They were clocked in 35.56 and 37.07.

Garrigan meet
 With three of its 10 members out with injury or illness, Clear Lake had a tough time scoring points at the Bishop Garrigan Meet held in Algona Friday, April 11.
Powerhouse Algona captured the team title with 188 points, while Bishop Garrigan was runner-up with 106. Clear Lake was last in the seven-team field with two points.
The only event the Lions scored in was the Sprint Medley. Emily VanderPloeg, Kirsten Reineke, Mckenna Backhaus and Megan Merfeld ran to a fifth place finish. They were clocked in 2:08.7.
