CL girls take third at NCC golf meet

The Clear Lake girls shot a season-low score, but it wasn’t enough to win the North Central Conference Tournament title this year.  The Lions were third in the team race behind Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Humboldt, which each fired a 391.  C-G- won the tiebreaker with a fifth score of 108.  The tournament was played at Veteran’s Memorial in Clear Lake.

Clear Lake finished with a 403, led by Emily Snelling’s 75.  Snelling was the class of the field, winning medalist honors by eight strokes over Humboldt’s Savannah Schnetzer.  CG-D’s Mikaela Livengood was third with an 87.  Courtney Yeoman, from Algona, was fourth with a 98 and Clear Lake’s Rebecca Long tied for fifth with 100.

“Today’s conference tournament was a cold and windy one, and for the girls to shoot their season low was great, considering these conditions,” said Clear Lake Coach Adam Brinkman.  “The girls didn’t let the weather bring them down, they battled all day. It was great to see them gain even more confidence heading into next Monday’s Regionals tournament.”

Snelling played extremely well all day. Her only bad hole was her very first hole, where she took a double bogey.

“She didn’t put her self down, as she knew she had 17 more holes to get those strokes back. She only played the next 17 holes at one-over par, finishing at three-over, 75.

“Emily is an extremely smart golfer on the course. Her driver was working well all day, putting her self in great shape for her approaches shots. She struggled with her putter a little bit today, but shooting a 75 in these was remarkable,” said Brinkman.

Long and Jordyn Barragy both shot their season low, coming in with scores of 100 and 109 respectively.

“Rebecca hit the ball well and is confident with her game heading to the post season,” said Brinkman.  “Jordyn’s driver has been one of her weaknesses lately, but her driver was what led her to shoot her season low.”

The fourth counting score for the Lions was provided by Maddy Hartnett, who fired a 119.  Also playing was Carson Frahm, who finished with a 124, and Peyton Huey, with 128.
