CL girls soccer team tops Cadets, 4-0
Team has a chance at new school record
The Clear Lake girls soccer team equalled their best record (8-3) with a 4-0 win over Iowa Falls-Alden Thursday. The Lions have two chances to set a new school record for wins with a match Tuesday at Mason City and the start of post-season play at Garner May 29.
Seniors Taylor Barragy, Alicia Miller, Ashley Miszewski, Lis Van Riujon and coach’s helper Kaly Good helped their team to the victory on Senior Night and Parent’s Night.
Clear Lake’s first goal came 12 minutes into the first half. Hannah Bartlett drove the ball effectively in windy conditions for the score. That was followed by a goal from Logan Anderson with an assist from Bartlett.
In the second half Ivy Hogg scored from the corner at the 16-minute mark in a crowd of Iowa Falls-Alden defenders. Megan Kopriva got the final score at 10-minutes with an assist from wide defender Emily Phalen.
“The defense worked to maintain control in the cross wind with senior sweeper Alicia Miller taking charge over her group,” said Coach Lothar Meyer. “The forwards maintained strong pressure on the Iowa Falls defense, scoring near goals several times.
Riley Brinkman had a light load in goal, with four saves.
Clear Lake’s offense made 25 shots on goal.
