CL girls soccer team ends successful season with 10-4 record
The Clear Lake girls soccer team ended a successful 2014 campaign one step short of the State Tournament. The Lions were eliminated, 7-0, by undefeated Nevada Monday night, June 9, in the Regional final played in Nevada.
The Cubs scored early and often before Clear Lake adjusted to slow down Nevada’s attack. The half time score was 7-0.
Coach Nick DiMarco said the halftime huddle found the Clear Lake girls talking about how they wanted to end their season on a positive note. “The leadership exhibited by the team captains, Logan Anderson, Ivy Hogg, Bailey Kibsgaard, and Madison Faber during halftime provided the spark to shut down the powerful Nevada squad in the second half,” said DiMarco.
The Lions ended the season with a record of 10-4.
“We faced excellent competition this year. Two of our losses were to Nevada and Waverly, who were second place winners at the State Tournament. As a new coach, I was grateful for such strong leadership from our seniors, Logan Anderson, Bailey Kibsgaard, Madison Faber, Ivy Hogg, Trudy Peterson, and Paige Cannella. The success of this team can also be directly attributed to the assistant coaches, Tim Fyfe and Hannah Bartlett, who’s love of soccer helped the girls on the field,” added DiMarco. “The 2015 soccer season will continue strong with a great base of enthusiastic underclassmen to assume the leadership of our program.”
