CL girls soccer posts a shutout against MC

The Clear Lake girls soccer team posted a shutout in their season opener.  The Lions topped Mason City, 1-0, Monday, April 8.

Ivy Hogg provided the winning goal.  She scored in the 33rd minute with an assist from Emily Willms  on a low goal.  The defense did the rest for the illness-plagued Lions team.

Coach Lothar Meyer said he used two freshman starters, Erin O’Tool and Ellie Biebesheimer, in mid-field along with freshman Abby Woiwod to replace upperclassmen out of the lineup with illness.

Riley Brinkman was in goal for the Lions.  She saved seven shots at goal, helped by the defensive play of sweepers Summer Tannahill and Madison Faber.

“Our freshmen did a good job of stepping up for the illness-plagued players and hopefully we improve our scoring skills.  Our forwards had 12 total shots near goal.  It was great to see Clear Lake support in the bleachers on a spring afternoon.”
