CL girls golf team completes perfect 9-0 season
The Clear Lake girls golf team can check off another goal reached during the 2013 season. After capturing the North Central Conference Tournament last week in Webster City, the Lions completed the regular dual meet NCC season with a perfect 9-0 record.
Monday, May 20, the Lions will compete at Storm Lake in a 12-team Regional, with the top two teams advancing to State. The Storm Lake Regional, to be played at Lake Creek Golf Club, also includes Bishop Heelan, Carroll, Denison-Schleswig, Glenwood, Harlan, Humboldt, LeMars, Lewis Central, Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Spencer and Storm Lake.
CL 181, Eagle Grove 218
Clear Lake’s Paige Backhaus earned medalist honors with a round of 43 against Eagle Grove Tuesday, May 7. The effort helped to lift the Lions to a 181-218 victory over the Eagles and gave the Lions a perfect season in the North Central Conference.
Malorie Fischels was one stroke back with a 44. Hailey Horner carded a 46 and Megan Loux scored 48 for the Lions.
FC Invitational
Charles City was a 22-stroke winner at the Forest City Invitational played Friday, May 10 at Bear Creek Golf Course. The Comets shot 353 to top the field of six. Clear Lake was runner-up with 375. The remainder of the field included Clarion-Goldfield (439), Mason City (465), Newman Catholic (491) and Forest City (529).
The Lions were led by Malorie Fischels’ 88. Paige Backhaus was next for Clear Lake with 90, Megan Loux carded a 95 and Hailey Horner came in with 102.
Charles City’s Jessie Sindlinger was medalist with a round of 74.
