CL cross country teams encounter some tough competition
Clear Lake cross country teams competed at Humboldt, Monday, Sept. 19 and at Mason City on Thursday, Sept. 22.
Humboldt Meet
Both Lion teams finished in the upper half of the large event. The varsity girls places seventh among 19 full teams; the varsity boys placed ninth overall out of 20 full teams.
The cross country season is now hitting its stride, with the Lions running in four events over an 11 day span.
Varsity girls
Sierra Greiman and Trudy Peterson crossed the finish line in ninth and 10th place respectively for the Lions. Their times were 16:25 and 16:28. Steph Faught was 25th in 17:18. Rebecca Baker and Amie Adams rounded out the varsity scoring, placing 67th and 97th in 18:31 and 19:35. Also competing in the varsity race was Kirsten Reineke
(109th, 20:12) and Jade Ullrich (126th, 22:03).
Varsity boys
The Lions boys did a good job of pushing each other, resulting in a balanced team effort.
Jacob Baker and Alex Blum placed 33rd and 34th in 18:32 and 18:34. Jake Iverson was net, placing 55th in 19:09. Alex Enabnit was 69th in 19:40 and Justin Jurgens was 75th in 19:53. Also running the in varsity race was Austin Anderson (79th, 20:01) and Troy Jandebeur (109th, 21:17).
Mason City Meet
It was a perfect night for running, with cool temps and mild wind, when the team traveled to Mason City.
Varsity boys
The boys team finished in seventh place, while the girls captured a fifth place finish.
“The boys finished in seventh place, which was not a bad finish considering the only teams to beat us were the 4A schools and rated teams, such as Osage and Garner,” said Coach Lothar Meyer. “The girls also had only 4A schools ahead of them and the rated Garner team.”
