CL boys finish strong at Bulldog Relays

The Clear Lake boys finished fourth in a closely contested team race at the Osage Boys Invite held Tuesday, April 28.  Charles City was the team champion with 118.5 points, edging New Hampton with 11, Osage with 99 and Clear Lake with 88 points.  Forest City (76), Saint Ansgar (60.5) and Riceville (5) competed the field.

The Lions were winners in three events.   Chandler Diercks ran an 11.32 to win the 100 meter dash.  Two relays also placed first.  The 4x200 with Cooper Merrill, Parker Truesdell, Zach Tatum and MaKean Bang won in 1:33.87.  The Distance Medley with Merrill, Tatum, Dustin King and Zach Lester crossed the finish line first in 3:52.86.

The 4x100 with Merrill, Tatum, Bang and Diercks was second in 45.27.  King added another second place finish to his total in the 400 meter dash, running 53.51.

The 4x110 Shuttle Hurdle relay was also second, with Truesdell, Parker Crispin, Alex Vander Ploeg and Chase Bacon clocking a 1:01.33.

Other place winning performances were provided by:

•High jump: Vander Ploeg, fourth, 5’8”

•100 meters: Tatum, third, 11.67

•110 hurdles: Crispin, third, 16.10

•400 hurdles: Truesdell, third, 58.90; Crispin, sixth, 1:03.05

•200 meters: Merrill, fourth, 23.91; Tavian Coleman, fifth, 24.34

•1600 meters: Grant Dieken, sixth, 5:24.79

•3200 meters: Dieken, sixth, 11:48.72

•4x100.25: third, Michael Leaman, Ethan McHenry, Ace Walton, Cody Matz, 54.68

•4x400: sixth, Coleman, Dylan Crotty, Truesdell, King, 3:48.69

•4x800: fifth, Lester, Matz, Speed Toyne, Karter Anderson, 9:01.91

 

Junior varsity

The junior varsity boys finished second in the six-team field at Osage.  Forest City won the team title with 125 points, followed by the Lions with 101 and Osage with 75.

Tanner Huey figured in three second place finishes.  He was runner-up in the 100 meters in 12.37 and was part of the 4x100 which ran a 48.96.  Other relay members included Luke Eggers, Aaron Kelso and Karter Anderson.  The 4x200 with Huey, Eggers, Kelso and Speed Toyne was second in 1:42.38.

Alex Vander Ploeg and Cody Matz finished one-two in the 110 hurdles in 16.88 and 19.78, while Lyle Jumajoy and Crisstian Jacobs were third and fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:16.83 and 1:22.77.

Dylan Crotty and Tyler Barker finished second and sixth respectively in the 400, while Nico McPherrin was third in the 200 in 27.05.

 

Bulldog Relays

Coach A.J. Feuerbach said his team had a great outing, with a good number of team bests, at the 11-team Bulldog Relays at Hampton Friday, May 1.  The Lions finished second to a very strong Charles City team.  The Comets compiled 151 points, while the Lions had 104.  They easily outdistance third place West Fork with 74-points.

“We had a great deal of team bests on times, so we are really looking forward these last two weeks toward conference and districts,” said Feuerbach.

Three winning relays gave the Lions 30 points.  The 4x100 and 4x200 with Zach Tatum, Cooper Merrill, Chandler Diercks and MaKean Bang both finished first.  The 4x100 ran a 45.17, while the 4x200 crossed the finish line in 1:32.37.  

Clear Lake’s 4x110 shuttle hurdle team with Parker Truesdell, Parker Crispin, Alex Vander Ploeg and Chase Bacon was a winner in 1:00.13.

Dustin King was Clear Lake’s lone winner in an individual event.  He crossed the finish line first in the 400 meter dash in 52.78.

Cooper also added a pair of runner-up finishes to his total for the day.  He was second in the 100 in 11.77 and ran the 200 in 23.54.  Tatum was third in the 100 in 11.84.  Bacon was fourth in the 200 in 24.30.

Truesdell also grabbed a second place finish in the 400 hurdles in 58.43.
