CL boys earn NCC Championship golf recognition
The Clear Lake boys golf team captured the North Central Conference championship with a strong performance Monday, May 7, at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course at Fort Dodge. The Lions (309) were five strokes better than Humboldt in winning the NCC tourney.
“So proud of our team!” said Lions Coach Eric Perry. “We were 2-2 early on in the conference and we’ve put a pretty good string together and accomplished a lot this
year. Today was a sign that hard work and perseverance pays off.”
Senior Luke Monson led the team with a 72 and finished as runner-up in the individual standings. Iowa Falls-Alden’s Tim Taylor was the medalist with a 71. Joining Monson on the NCC First Team was Clear Lake freshman Tommy Schick, who tied for eighth with a 77.
Other scores contributing to the Lions’ win were recorded by Treslyn Allison (79) and Tyler Sherman (81). Also golfing was Jon Carew (81) and Dane Waldron (83).
Coach Perry said Monson’s low score, complimented by team depth gave the Lions the NCC win.
“Luke was very good today. He parred every hole on the front, then had two bogeys and two birdies on the back, so Luke parred 14 out of the 18 holes today. I’d say that was pretty good,” said the coach. “Luke was the difference for our team today.
