Cards tie for second at close NIC Meet
The North Iowa Conference golf tournament, held on Tuesday, May 13, was about as close as it could be, with three schools separated by two strokes. When it was all said and done, Forest City won the meet with a score of 357, followed by Lake Mills and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura who tied for second place with 359 strokes apiece. Belmond-Klemme was third in the eight field meet with 364.
Jacob Heinemann had an outstanding day for the Cardinals, earning runner-up medalist honor with a 79. His score was seven strokes better than the third place finisher, Dan Melby, of Forest City, who carded an 86. Wes Buntenbach, of Belmond-Klemme, won the meet with a 77.
“Jacob had a super day on the difficult Bear Creek course,” said Coach Ken Krause. “His hard work and practice has really paid off this season.”
Also making the All-Conference team was senior Mitch Lunning and freshman Grady Umbarger who tied for 11th place with a 91.
Also golfing for GHV was Matt Schroeder, who carded a 98, Braedan Johnston with a 99 and Ryan Grunwald shot 100.
