Cards bring home some first place finishes

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team traveled to North Union on Thursday, April 25.  The Cardinals placed fourth in a field of eight teams.  North Iowa won the meet with 121 points.  G-H/V scored 77 team points.

“We were hoping to score higher as a team, but we’re still figuring out the best places to put everyone,” said Coach Dyan Childress.  “I’m anxious to see what happens by just moving a few people around and putting together some different relays.”

The Cardinals picked up three individual and one relay first place finish.  Dasi Larson placed first in the shot put with a toss of 39’11.75”.  Emily Mathews was first in the long jump with a leap of 14’7” and she was first in the 100 meter hurdles in 16.19.  Mathews also anchored the shuttle hurdle relay team which placed first with a time of 1:12.43.  Other members of the relay were Stacy Hackenmiller, Lizzy Henely and Sola Stephenson.

Stephenson also did well in the long jump, finishing just behind Mathews with a jump of 14’2” for a second place finish.

•High Jump - Vossberg, sixth, 4’6”

•400 M Dash - Vossberg, sixth, 70.88

•4x200 - Angela 0’Hara, Betshaida Larson, Jayme Haag, Miranda Jackson, sixth, 2:07.93

•4x400 - O’Hara, Prescott, Graham, Meyers, sixth, 5:03.61
