Cardinals pick up two big soccer wins

Ernie Mizsewski recorded two assists and scored three goals to lead the Clear Lake boys soccer team to a 5-3 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden Thursday, April 23.

“We played really well at times and then not so well at times.  We’ll work on being more consistent as the season continues,” said Coach Matt Anderson.  “Ernie Miszewski played extremely well, probably his best game of the season.”

Mizsewski got his first goal in the sixth minute, with an assist from Jarod Anderson.

In the 13th minute, Iowa Falls-Alden was awarded a penalty kick and converted it for a goal to knot the score at 1-1.

Miszewski provided an assist to MJ Mixdorf for a 2-1 Lions lead at half.

In the 41st minute, Mixdorf returned the assist favor to Miszewski for a goal.  Jack Finn finished an attack for a goal in the 43rd minute to make the score 4-1.

The Cadets  recorded goals in the 68th  and 72nd minutes to pull within one, but in the 74th minute, Finn assisted Miszewski for the final goal of the contest. The Lions won 5-3.

Clear Lake was scheduled to play at Boone Saturday, but the tournament was cancelled due to rain.  Their next match is Friday at home against Garner-Hayfield/Ventura.
