Cardinals move record to 2-8

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team moved their record to 2-8, with two losses and one win in recent baseball action.

Osage 3, G-H/V 1

The Cardinals hosted Osage on Wednesday, June 5.  

The Green Devils opened the game with two runs in the first inning.  G-H/V’s Keith Schwickerath scored the Cardinals’ lone run on a hit by Jimmy Ermer in the 

fourth inning.  Osage added one more to their total in the sixth inning for the final score of 3-1.

Josh Theobald pitched all seven innings for the Cardinals.  He gave up six hits, walked three and struck out five.

Schwickerath and Nathan Hrubes both had two hits for the night.  Spencer Shaw, Heath Hutcheson, Zach Buseman and Ermer all had one hit apiece. 

 

Forest City 13, G-H/V 11

The bats were hot for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team Friday night, June 7, when the Cardinals hosted Forest City.  Unfortunately for the Cards, the bats were also hot for the Indians.  Forest City came out on top, 13-11.

Forest City came out strong and scored five runs in the first inning, to G-H/V’s two.  The Cardinals picked it up in the second and fourth innings to take the lead, 8-6.  Forest City returned the favor and scored five runs in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh, while G-H/V scored only three more runs in the seventh inning, for the final 13-11 victory for the Indians.

Spencer Shaw took the loss on the mound.  He gave up 11 hits.  He walked three and struck out five.  Heath Hutcheson provided some relief pitching, giving up three hits and two runs.  He had one strike-out and walked two.

Josh Theobald had the hottest bat on the Cardinal team, collecting three hits on five at-bats.  He had three RBIs and one of his hits was a double.  Shaw, Nathan Hrubes and Braden Meints had two hits apiece, while Hutcheson and Zach Buseman each had one hit.

Hrubes collected three RBI’s for the Cardinals, while Shaw, Hutcheson, Meints, Nick Roberts and Keith Schwickerath all had one RBI.

 

G-H/V 12, B-K 2

Belmond-Klemme took a pounding by the Cardinals Monday night, June 10.  G-H/V rolled to a 12-2 victory over the Broncos.

Neither team scored in the first innings, but the Cards came alive in the second inning, scoring six runs.  G-H/V went on to score three runs in both the third and fourth innings.  The Broncos scored their two points in the fifth inning for the final 12-2 score.

Heath Hutcheson led the team at the plate, picking up three hits on four at-bats.  He also had two RBI’s.  Zach Buseman collected two hits, while Spencer Shaw, Nathan Hrubes, Braden Meints, Josh Theobald and Keith Schwickerath all had one hit.

Hrubes and Meints each had two RBIs.

Shaw found his way to home plate the most, with three runs.  Hrubes, Schwickerath and Caleb Ploeger had two runs apiece.  Theobald, Jimmy Ermer and Derek Lonneman had one run each.

Buseman was credited with the win.  He pitched all five innings, giving up four hits.  He walked three and struck out five batters.
