Cardinals fall to IF-A in soccer show down

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys soccer team dropped a 4-1 match with Iowa Falls-Alden on Thursday, April 4.

“Although Iowa Falls-Alden is a good team, we didn’t play our best,” said Head Coach Eric Williams.  “You could tell that we just don’t have our legs under us yet, or feel comfortable with each other.  We need to play as a team and understand each other’s rolls.”

The team was without starters Alex VanGerpen, Keith Schwicherath and Allen Devora.

“Losing those starters really put a lot of pressure on the underclassmen, but they stepped up and played hard,” said Williams.

The Cadets scored early, but the Cardinals responded shortly after that when Teddy Zrostlik passed the ball up to Brad Nedved who made the goal.  IF-A scored again late in the first half to go up, 2-1.

Some missed key shots in the second half doomed the Cardinals.  The Cadets connected on theirs and won the contest, 4-1.

Goalie Nathan Hrubes had four goals made against him and he had 13 saves.

Nedved attempted three shots, while Jimmy Ermer, Leonard Heurtebize and Teddy Zrostlik each had two shots.  Dalton Basinger attempted one shot.

G-H/V had seven shots on goal, with Nedved having three, Zrostlik two, and Heurtebize and Basinger with one apiece.
