Cardinals drop two soccer contests

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys soccer team is improving, but just doesn’t have the bench to complete a full game, as they dropped two contests last week.

Webster City 5, GHV 2

On Monday night, April 27, the Cards faced Webster City.  The Lynx are a top ranked team with a lot of speed and fire power, and they proved to be just a little too much for GHV, as the Cardinals fell, 5-2.

GHV did manage to score two goals on Webster City, one by Dalton Basinger and the other by Turner Albertson.

“Scoring two goals on them was really a great achievement for us as a team,” said Coach Eric Williams.  “We also learned a lot from this match.”

Basinger provided the assist for Albertson’s goal.

Goalie Jeremiah Loschen had 17 saves.

Albertson had two shots on goal, while Basinger had one.

Clear Lake 6, GHV 1

It was another tough game when the Cardinals faced another good opponent in Clear Lake, who boasts plenty of experience and depth.

GHV held their own for awhile, but eventually came up short in the 6-1 loss.

“I love playing Clear Lake.  They are really competitive, well coached and it sets the bar high for our boys to reach towards,” said Coach Eric Williams.  “Having quality opponents will continue to make us better.”

Connor Burke scored GHV’s lone goal.

Jeremiah Loschen had four saves at the goalie position.

Taking shots for the team was Burke led with three, Jack Bertilson had two, and Patrick Terhark had one shot.
