Cardinals drop four games

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team moved their record to 2-12 with four more losses last week.

Lake Mills 7, GHV 4

 The Cardinals dropped a home game to Lake Mills on Monday, June 9.

 The Bulldogs opened strong, scoring three runs in the first inning. GHV was held scoreless until the fourth inning. The Cards scored one run in the fourth inning, one in the fifth and two in the seventh. Lake Mills got three runs across home plate in the ninth inning for the final, 7-4 victory.
 Starting pitcher Josh Theobald threw a good game for the Cardinals, striking out eight batters. He gave up four hits and walked two. Spencer Shaw was the losing pitcher. He struck-out one batter, walked one, and gave up two hits and three runs.
 GHV only managed four hits in the game. Alek Goll connected for a double, while Theobald, Braden Meints and Cade Baker each got a single.
Shaw scored two of GHV’s runs and also led the team in stolen bases with two. Goll and Harley Forry scored the other two runs.
Theobald, Meints and Baker each had an RBI.
Osage 2, GHV 0
Osage held the Cardinals scoreless on a 2-0 shut-out on Wednesday, June 11.
Hits were held to a minimum for both teams, with GHV collecting three hits and Osage just two.
The game was scoreless until the sixth inning, when Osage scored their two runs.
Braden Meints, Cade Baker and Jim Ermer were the only players to manage a hit for the Cardinals.
Spencer Shaw was the losing pitcher. He struck-out three batters, walked two and gave up two runs.

Clear Lake 14, GHV 3
The Clear Lake Lions posted a 14-3 victory over GHV in five innings on Thursday, June 12.
The score was knotted 1-1 when GHV knotted the score in the top of the third. Clear Lake put the game out of reach in the bottom of the third with seven runs, then added three more in the fourth to go up, 11-1.
The Cardinals picked up two more in the top of the fifth.
Holden Hutcheson took the loss on the mound for GHV. He gave up five hits and 10 runs in three and two-thirds innings. He struck out three and walked five. Cory Boeckman also had some pitching time. He gave up seven hits, four runs and struck-out one.
Payton James and Jake Wolf had the Cards’ only hits.

Forest City 5, GHV 3
GHV traveled to Forest City on Friday, June 13, for a conference match-up. The Indians won the close contest, 5-3.
Payton James was the losing pitcher for the Cardinals. He threw one strike-out, walked seven and gave up five hits and five runs. Josh Theobald also saw action on the mound. He struck-out one and gave up one hit.
Jake Wolf led the offense with two hits and two RBIs. Collecting one single hit apiece was Theobald, Cade Baker, and James.
Theobald, Braden Meints and Spencer Shaw scored GHV’s runs.
