Cardinals drop a close soccer match to IF-A
Despite a slow start, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys soccer team came back fighting and gave Iowa Falls-Alden a good game on Monday, April 13. The Cadets ended up beating the Cardinals, 2-1.
IFA opened the game with a goal in the first five minutes of the match. GHV settled down and found the net at the 30 minute mark to knot the score, 1-1. The goal was made when Dane Whipple had a throw that crossed in front of the net and Dalton Basinger was able to put his head on it and find the inside of the net.
The Cadets scored the last goal in the second half for the 2-1 victory.
“I’m very proud of the young men. They played hard and really tried,” said Coach Eric Williams. “We are such a young team and it’s exciting to see that we are getting better, but just lack the experience other teams have.”
Jeremiah Loschen led the team in saves with five. Loschen had two goals scored against him.
Whipple had the team’s only assist. Turner Albertson had three shots on goal, while Jack Bertilson, Basinger and Patrick Terhark each had one shot on goal.
“If we continue to play this way we will have a lot to celebrate by the end of the season,” said Williams.
