G-H/V 71, West Hancock 30

The Cardinals traveled to West Hancock on Tuesday, Jan. 15, and had an easy time defeating the Eagles.

West Hancock likes to play a fast paced game and GHV had no problem playing that way, in fact, they excelled at it.  The Cards jumped to an early 22-4 lead and stretched that to 34-12 by halftime.  The second half progressed same as the first for the final 71-30 trounce.

“The guys did a nice job breaking the press and getting the ball in the paint,” said Coach Joe Albertson.  “There were a number of things that we did well, but getting efficient scoring from everybody makes it very difficult for the opponent.”

Braden Meints and Austin Kropp led the team on offense with 12 and 10 points respectively.  Spencer Shaw added nine, while Joel Toppin chipped in eight.  Nathan Hrubes, Jake Wolf, Heath Hutcheson and Zach Buseman all had six points and Logan Ryerson and Alex Van Gerpen had four apiece.

Kropp and Wolf had outstanding nights under the boards, hauling in nine and eight rebounds each.  Meints and Van Gerpen each had five rebounds.

Toppin dished out five assists to lead the team, while Hutcheson and Van Gerpen each had four.  Meints led the team in steals with two.  Kropp and Wolf each blocked two shots.
