Cal was born April 24, 1929, to parents Maynard and Ruth Langerud, in Leland.

After serving in the US Army, stationed in Korea, he returned to Iowa and was a successful farmer in the Lake Mills area for many years. He was an accomplished pilot who owned different airplanes and flew commercially for a short time. As an avid golfer, he made many friends on the course in Arizona and was always trying to perfect his golf swing. Later in life he loved playing pool and was known to place bets with friends. With a passionate love for music, he played the organ and accordion. The song, “King of the Road,” was always his first choice to play. Cal spent many years in Clear Lake where he loved boating, happy hour and gathering with family. Most of all he was a loving father, grandfather, and husband.

Cal married Gloria Larson Langerud and had three children, Deb (Darrell) Swanson, of Rochester NY, Denny (Deb) Langerud, of Jacksonville NC, and Dodi (Brent) Rastetter, of Ankeny.

He was blessed to find love again and married Muriel Giesman Langerud in 2001. This union brought stepsons, Lance (Kim) Mays, Paul Denny (Kristy) Giesman; stepdaughters, Linda Nuehring, and Mary (Marion) Heintz. They had the best of both worlds spending the winters in Arizona and summers in Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel; sister, Sally Bevan; and brothers, Ernest and Duane Langerud.

He is survived by brother, David Langerud; three children; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four step-children; eight step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
