Busy week for GHV girls track team
The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team is reaching goals and making new ones as they head into the second half of the season.
Lake Mills Meet
The Cardinals traveled to Lake Mills on Monday, April 27, to kick off one of three track meets held last week. GHV finished in sixth place out of seven teams with 40.5 team points. Saint Ansgar won the meet with 126 points.
Taylor Vossberg was the highest placing Cardinal with a second place finish in the high jump with a jump of 5’0.
GHV had several third place finishes. Casie Conley was third in the long jump with a leap of 13’10” and Rebekah Larson finished third in the 3000 run, 13.00.78. The shuttle hurdle relay team finished in 1:13.37. Members of the relay are Miranda Jackson, Jillian Heitland, Brooklynn Ossmon and Stacy Hackenmiller.

•High jump: Emma Whelan, sixth, 4’4”
•400 meter dash: Danielle Nelson, sixth, 71.79
•100 meter hurdles: Hackenmiller, fifth, 17.55
•4x200 relay: Heitland, Conley, Shelby Scott, Mallory Van Oort, sixth, 2:05.19
•Sprint Medley: Conley, Van Oort, Vossberg, Whelan, fifth, 2:06.52.
Forest City Meet
It was back-to-back meets for the Cardinals when they competed at Forest City on Tuesday, April 28. GHV finished at the bottom of the six-team competition with 54 points. Algona won the meet with 178 points.
GHV had an exciting race in the 100 meter hurdles when Stacy Hackenmiller captured first place with a time of 17.12.
Hackenmiller was also anchored the shuttle hurdle team that placed second in 1.13.73. Other members of the relay were Miranda Jackson, Jillian Heitland and Brooklynn Ossman.
Taylor Vossberg finished second in the high jump, clearing 4’10”

•4x400 relay: Prescott, Van Oort, Vossberg, Whelan, fourth, 4:46.52.
North Union Meet
The Cardinals finished fifth in the seven-team field at the North Union meet on Thursday, April 30, with 67 team points. Bishop-Garrigan won the meet with 126 points.
“The team gets so excited for each other with every new personal record or season record we break,” said Coach Dyan Childress.
GHV had several highlights for the night, with three events claiming first place honors. Taylor Vossberg won the high jump, clearing 4’8”. Shelby Scott won the 100 meter dash in 14.11. The shuttle hurdle team of Miranda Jackson, Jillian Heitland, Brooklynn Ossman and Stacy Hackenmiller also won with a time of 1:12.07.
Stacy Hackenmiller tied for second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.0
Emma Whelan was third in the high jump with a jump of 4’4”.
