Betz will resign School Board seat this month
Clear Lake School Board member Deb Betz has announced she will resign her position effective July 29.
Betz and her family are moving to Venice, Fla., where her husband, David, has accepted a new job. The Monday, July 28, regular Board meeting will be her final meeting.
Betz was first elected to the School Board in 2007 to fill a one-year term created by the resignation of Theresa Brakke. She was re-elected in 2008 for a three-year term and successfully ran again in 2011 for a four-year term.
“The past seven years on the Clear Lake School Board has been a great learning experience. It has been very rewarding and challenging at the same time,” said Betz. “I have enjoyed working with the Board, administration, and staff over the years. I will miss Clear Lake and the many friends I have made. However, it is time to move on to the next chapter in my life; but I will never forget the relationships that I have made since we moved to Clear Lake over 12 years ago.”
Board Secretary Lorna Leerar explained that Board Policy calls for the Board to appoint a replacement for Betz within the next 30 days. That person will serve until the next Regular School Board election in September 2015. If an appointment is not made within 30 days, the Board Secretary will call for a special election.
