Bergvig unseats incumbent in CL School Board vote

The Clear Lake School Board will have one new member when it convenes Monday, Sept. 23.  Chyrl Bergvig was the top vote-getter in the Sept. 10 election, denying incumbent Sandy Christ a third term on the Board.  Incumbent Mark Tesar received 151 more votes than Christ, giving him the second seat up for election.

Bergvig, a former educator, received 392 votes, or 42.2 percent of the 510 votes cast by Clear Lake School District voters.  Tesar collected 343 votes (36.9 percent) and Christ had 192 votes (20.6 percent).  There were two write-ins.

“I’m excited to get back into school mode,” said Bergvig, who retired as assistant principal and guidance counselor at Clear Lake High School in 2009.  She spent 17 years with the CLSD and a total of 35 years in education.  “I will be learning and asking questions-- getting facts before making decisions.”
