Area dancers claim National Championships

A competition dance team consisting of students from the North Iowa area recently traveled to St. Louis, Mo., June 13-15, to attained TOP Dance Nationals.

 The team competed in Hip Hop, Lyrical, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary and Solo/Duets.
 The team walked away with all superior top 10 rankings and three national titles.

 The local team competed against schools from Des Moines, Little Rock, Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee and St. Louis, to name a few.
“We are very proud of the hard work that our kids put in each year. The little Iowa guys can beat the big city guys,” said one of the coaches, Roxanna Johnson.
Team coaches and choreographers included Johnson, Liz LeFevre and Katy Lubkeman.
The group earned National Championship titles in the following categories:
•Hip Hop - song, “I’m on a Roll;” members include: Cale Schmitz, Mia DeVries, Bella Clabaugh, Kourtney Verhalen, Emily LeFevre, Ellie Tindall, Savannah Williams, Marissa Olk, Jayde Wikert, Emily Neuman, Reann Orr, Allison Neuman and McKenna Wilkinson.
•Contemporary - song, “Gates of Heaven;” members include: Reann Orr, Mia DeVries, Bella Clabaugh, Kourtney Verhalen, Emily LeFevre, Ellie Tindall, Marissa Olk, Jayde Wikert, McKenna Wilkinson and Tori Wreghitt.
•9-10 Solo - song, “Queen Bee,” Emily LeFevre
