Area bikers participate in Canton Cycling Classic
Three area bike enthusiasts participated in the Canton Cycling Classic bike races held Aug. 9 and 10 in Canton, S.D. The event was part of the Midwest Flyover Series.
Tyler Curtis, 14, of Clear Lake, raced in the Juniors category. Jason Sholly, also of Clear Lake, and Steve Bailey, of Rochester, Minn. and formerly of Mason City, Iowa, both raced in Men’s Category 4.
Curtis placed first in both the Time Trial and the Criterium. He was second in the Road Race. The highlight was when Curtis won the Juniors Omnium, which is based on total points over the course of the weekend. He also participated in the Men’s Category 5 Criterium, where he placed ninth.
Sholly got twelfth place in the Time Trial, first place in the Criterium, and ninth place in the Road Race.
He got fourth place in the Omnium.
Bailey got third place in the Time Trial, fifth place in the Criterium, and second place in the Road Race. He also won the Omnium, as well as winning the entire Flyover series (based on total points over the course of fiveweekends of racing over the summer).
