Area athletes compete at Drake Relays
G-H/V’s Larson wins it all in the shot put
It was a record breaking day for Garner-Hayfield/Ventura’s Dasiana Larson, who broke the Garner-Hayfield school record on her way to winning the girls shot put at the Drake Relays on Friday, April 26.
Larson’s throw of 42’5” broke the previous school record by a little over a foot to make her the Cardinal’s first ever Drake Relay champion. The record breaking throw was made on her second-to-the-last attempt.
“Dasi was awesome to watch during the competition as she gained her focus and was able to throw her all time best,” said Coach Dyan Childress.
Larson topped a field of nine finalists. Des Moines Roosevelt’s Alexa Hunt placed second with a toss of 41’10 1/4”.
