Agnes Gilbert

Agnes Irene Gilbert, 98, of Clear Lake, Iowa died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. Rhoda Preston officiating.   Visitation will be Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 

Ward-Van-Slyke Colonial Chapel.   Interment will be in Concord Cemetery, Garner, Iowa.

Agnes was born June 30, 1914 in Thompson, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Inga (Havnen) Hestness.  She graduated from Thompson High School in 1931.

She married Dean Alfred Gilbert Nov. 9, 1940 in Sioux Falls, S.D.  Agnes worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for 20 years as a nurse’s aide retiring in 1985.  She enjoyed crocheting, baking and sports.  She also volunteered at Opportunity Village and A.E.A.  She was a member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

Agnes is survived by her four children, Joanne  Gilbert Stebbins, Longwood, Fla.; Judy (Dr. Jim) Schrader, Glendale, Ariz.; Dr. Michael (Dr. Deirdre) Gilbert, Colorado Springs, Colo. and Ron Gilbert, Ocala, Fla.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean, in 1958; son, Dennis, in 2002;  six brothers and four sisters. 

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
