GHV girls to begin post-season play against Clear Lake

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls wrapped up their  regular season with a  9-20 record.  Post season play begins tonight (Wednesday, July 10) for the Cardinals when they face Clear Lake in the opening round of the Class 3A Region 4 Tournament.  The game is at Clear Lake and begins at 7:30 p.m.

Jack Larson, 91, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, July 6, 2019, at MercyOne North Iowa – Hospice, in Mason City.

A Memorial Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Stephen Benitz, of St. John’s Episcopal Church officiating.  Jack’s family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Rosie Robbins Bodin, 69, of Brooklyn Center, Minn., formerly of Ventura, passed away Monday, July 1, 2019, at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice, in Mason City.

  Memorial services were held on Saturday, July 6, at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner, with the Rev. Scott Kozisek officiating.   

  Memorials may be directed to MercyOne North Iowa Cancer Center, in Mason City.

Tom and Nancy Evans, owners of Evans United Shows, often say that coming to Clear Lake each July 4th is like coming home.

“It was quite a welcome home this year,” said Nancy.  “A terrific stay with good friends and good fun.”

Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) made a stop in Clear Lake part of his July 4th holiday.  O’Rourke and his family were on hand as the Evans United Shows carnival opened Wednesday night in City Park.

O’Rourke said he enjoys sharing the campaign experience with his wife, Amy, and three children.

Boater charged after colliding with dock

On Thursday, July 4, at approximately 1:53 a.m. a Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a report of a boat collision on Clear Lake at 5644 South Shore Drive.

A 1997 Cobalt boat operated by Edward Peter Michael Eades, 23, of Grand Forks, N.D., struck a dock and a docked 2014 Skiers Choice Supra SC boat, causing structural damage to the dock and minimal damage to the boat.

The boat operator and two other passengers, Alexander D. Stoley, 23, Moorehead, Minn., and Joseph D. Burgmeier, 23, Clear Lake, were uninjured in the collision.
