Russell O. Fulghum

 

Russell Owen Fulghum, 88, 400 Hwy. 18 W., Clear Lake, died Friday, June 21, 2013 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.  

A Celebration of Life service was held on Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Christian Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. Scott Wilson officiating.  Committal services followed in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, where military honors were conducted by the Clear Lake V.F.W.  

Lions can boast best record in the state

 

With six more wins in the past week, Clear Lake improved to 20-1 overall and 9-0 in the North Central Conference.  The top ranked team in Class 3A currently has the best record of any team in the entire state in any class.

CL girls keep improving

 

The more they play, the better they play. That’s been the story of the season for the Clear Lake softball team. The Lions picked up a pair of wins last week to move to 5-11-1 on the season.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team endured a long week, dropping eight games.

CL golfers earn post season honors

 

The Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association released its post season honors this week.  Clear Lake’s successful girls and boys programs were represented.

Malorie Fischels, a CLHS senior, was named to the Class 4A First team All-State.  Teammates Paige Backhaus, a junior, and Megan Loux, a senior, were named to the Second Team.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team moved their record to 5-14 by picking up two more wins and dropping two last week.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team faced Bishop Garrigan in a double header on Tuesday, June 18.  The Cardinals dominated one game and were dominated in the other.

G-H/V came out strong in the first game and handed the Golden Bears an 11-4 loss.

All the rain is good for something, as it brought the lake up another 1.92” to

 its new reading of +4.20” above the weir.  Last year at this time the lake measured -12.24” below the weir.

Opportunity Village leader John Severtson retiring in May 2014

 

John Severtson, CEO of Opportunity Village, announced Monday that he plans to retire at the end of May 2014.

Severtson started at the Village in 1983 as development director.  He later took on the role of assistant executive director for 15 years and was chosen as CEO in 2002.
