Lions playing stellar ball against some of the state’s best teams

 

The number two ranked (3A) Clear Lake baseball team improved to 30-3 and is playing stellar baseball against some of the state’s top teams.  Victories last week over St. Ed’s, Garrigan and Newman Catholic, the top ranked team in Class 1A, helped the Lions reach the  30-win milestone for the second straight year. They currently have the best record in Class 3A.

Results for weekend bicycle races

 

The annual Bicycle, Blues and BBQ event was held on Friday-Sunday, July 13-15, in Clear Lake.

Three bike races were held in conjunction with the weekend.  On Saturday at 7:30 a.m. the BBQ Omnium race kicked off with a seven mile time trial starting at Lions Field on North 8th St.  All eyes were on the 

Cardinals drop two close games

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team had a tough week, dropping two games by one run, to Central Springs and another to Emmetsburg.  The team was scheduled to play Central Springs on Saturday, July 13, but due to inclement weather, the game was moved to Monday, July 15 (results of that game will be published in next week’s edition of the Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter).

The Cardinals came out strong against Central Springs on Tuesday, July 9, but couldn’t hold on to the momentum.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls advanced in the Class 3A District competition with a win over Forest City.  Unfortunately, the season ended for the team as it fell to Estherville Lincoln Central in the second round of District play.

LAKE LEVEL

 

Warm weather last week caused a 1.56” decrease in the lake level.  The lake 

measured -0.12” below the weir.  Last year at this time the lake measured -16.56” below the weir.

One killed in vehicle rollover

 

A Forest City man was killed after he lost control of his vehicle on a gravel road, causing it to rollover and eject him.

The Clear Lake Fire Department was among the emergency responders to the call at 4:47 p.m. Monday, July 15.

Bicycle, Blues, BBQ event brings out competitors and fans in big numbers

It’s hard to top winning a National Championship, but Tom Zirbel said cycling in his hometown, with family and friends cheering him on made the Bicycle, Blues & BBQ weekend pretty sweet.

The City of Clear Lake has filed a lawsuit against two brothers in connection with an April accident in which a police car driven by Lt. Paul Chizek was struck by a truck.  The city is seeking an $8,890.36 judgment against Steven Orta, 21, and Ryan Orta, 29, both of Mason City, for damage to the police car.
