Mathews and Spilman earn spots on Cornbelt All-Conference teams

The Ventura girls basketball team had two girls named to All-Conference teams for the Cornbelt Conference.  Emily Mathews, a sophomore, was named First Team All-Conference and Emily Spilman, a freshman, earned Honorable Mention recognition.

Mathews was the team’s leading scorer with a total of 265 points for the season.  She averaged 12.6 points a game.  She was also the leading rebounder with 216 rebounds for the year.  Also for the season, she collected 57 steals and 30 blocks.

Coach Huber said he is looking forward to seeing what Mathews can do with the rest of her career at Garner and hopes she can reach a goal of 1,000 points before her career is over.
Spilman was the team’s point guard this season.  She collected 163 points, which averaged 7.4 points a game.  Spilman led the team in steals with 78 for the season.  She also grabbed 51 rebounds and blocked five shots.
