Becker and Murray win annual Walleye Classic
The team of Jeff Becker and David Murray captured top honors in the Clear Lake Fishing Club’s annual Walleye Classic held Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17 on Clear Lake. The local team brought in 25.33 pounds of walleye to win the $2,500 top prize.
Steve and Alex Templeton finished as runner-ups in the classic with 23.28 pounds. Chris Scholl and Bill Miller were third with 22.16 pounds.
The potential threat of severe weather shortened the contest by a few hours, but 98 of the 100 teams registered weighed fish. A total of 763 walleye weighing 1,207.65 pounds were brought in to be weighed at City Park during the two-day event.
The big fish award went to Jennifer Behr, who brought in a walleye weighing 6.24 pounds on day one. The fish helped her team, which also included Cory Behr, finish sixth overall.
The top 10 teams included: Steve Meints and Burt Bottjen, fourth, 21.73; John Fuchs and Neil Daniels, fifth, 21.68; Behr and Behr, sixth, 19.54; Scott Butt and Brandon Johnson, seventh, 19.14; Mike Odor and Jeremy Ruehle, eighth, 19.05; Lee Kiewiet and Tony Holland, ninth, 18.48; Judson and Cole Ollinger, 10th, 18.16.
