Jones advances to State Tennis
Clear Lake junior Sam Jones improved his record to 15-0 and advances to the Iowa Boys State Tennis Tournament for the third straight year as a District champion.
Jones went 3-0 in District play Friday, May 15, at Waverly. He won the championship in convincing style, going 6-0, 6-0.
“Sam continues to be consistent with his game,” said Coach Rich Peters. “His forehand and serve have developed over the last two years. He is hitting both with more power. “
The State tournament will be played May 29 and 30 at Waterloo. The draw for the state tournament does not happen until the morning of the tournament.
Clear Lake’s other singles player at the District meet was Jacob Peterson. The sophomore went 1-1 on the day and finished his season with a 6-4 record.
In doubles play, Clear Lake’s Andrew Davis and Ben Mason went 1-1 on the day. Nick Holtz and Eric Hahn went 0-1.
